Looking For Ways to Make Up High School Credit?
You've come to the right place. You have three options for making up credit that's required for graduation...
After School/Night Programs
Many schools offer an additional 6th or 7th hour as a way to make up credit. These classes are generally taught by teachers in the school for a specific duration of time. For example, you may need to spend a 2 hour block of time every day after school for a month or two. If you complete the required coursework and attend classes, you can recover lost credit. There are variations to the setup of each class as some may only require you to attend two days a week but for an entire semester.
Night school works the same way. You are to attend class for a certain amount of days/hours and upon completion you may receive credit for a class. Often times, you may attend a local community college for night classes in order to recover credit required for graduation. |
Online Programs
There are many different online programs used for credit recovery, but they all have something in common. The commonality is that all these programs are designed to help students recover credit in an online format so that you can graduate (on time hopefully).
APEX: Offers blended instructional format of virtual and in class learning Michigan Virtual School: Wide array of fully online classes including AP classes. Courses taught my Michigan-certified teachers, but your diploma/credits are granted by your local school. Plato: Offers the option for a lab setting, blended setting, or fully online experience E2020 (Edgenuity): Offers specialized plans with pretests and other assessments. This program is usually used during the school day so you can directly ask questions about your course work. You may work with one of these online programs during normal school hours or be required to work on these classes at home. These programs can be combined in a number of ways to help you complete your lost credit. Online programs are typically more flexible and allow you to proceed at your own pace. |
Summer School
Summer school is another option for recovering credit. Summer school usually consists of shorter days/class time and doesn't last the whole summer. Program lengths vary but they usually last around 5 weeks.
Not every class is offered as an option for summer school. Make sure to check with your counselor to see if the class you need is available. |
