College Level Examination Program (CLEP)
What?
The CLEP helps you receive college credit for what you already know, for a fraction of the cost of a college course. For only $80 you can take a test, and receive up to 12 credits for college. You must earn a qualifying score (determined by the institution you are interested in) to receive any type of credit ranging from 3-12 credits. Find out before you take a
CLEP exam what type of credit you can receive from your institution, or
whether you will be exempted from a required course but receive no
credit.
|
Who?
Anyone may take a CLEP exam! If you feel confident in any given area, test the waters and take the test!
|
When?
CLEP Tests are offered year round at many testing centers and colleges. You must register for the exam online, and then schedule your test date and time with a testing center. Find a CLEP testing center near you.

Helpful Hints:

- To find out if your institution accepts CLEP, use the Institution Search tool. Each institution sets its own policy: It decides which CLEP exams it will grant credit for and how many credits it will award. So talk to your admissions officer, academic advisor or test center administrator to learn more about your institution’s CLEP Policy.
- Before your exam, check with your test center to see how much they charge for an administration fee. This fee is on top of the $80 exam fee.
- If you need accommodations, contact the test center. They should be able to make arrangements for you.
- You must wait six months before repeating the same CLEP Exam.
- Answer ALL questions! Points are not deducted for wrong or skipped answers, so it's best to guess if you don't know the answer.
